Wayne Bank takes pride in still having the friendly personal touch that has been our hallmark when we began as a simple storefront operation in 1871. Today, our tellers still know most of our customers on a first name basis, and the bank is stronger and more secure than ever, having become one of the premiere financial institutions in Northeastern Pennsylvania. With assets of over $500 million and a strong capital position, we have what it takes to continue long into the future.

Over the years, Wayne Bank has grown and serves thousands of customers from 11 community office locations in Wayne, Pike and Monroe Counties. Wayne County locations include branch offices in Lakewood and Waymart, as well as our Main branch and corporate headquarters in Honesdale, and a satellite office on Willow Avenue in Honesdale.

Locations in Pike and Monroe Counties

Located virtually on the Wayne/Pike county border, the Hawley/Lake Wallenpaupack office serves residents of both counties. The Pike County locations include Milford, Lords Valley, and Shohola. Wayne Bank expanded its Branch Community offices into Monroe County in 1999 with the Stroudsburg branch located outside of the Stroud Mall on Route 611. In July of 2004, the Marshalls Creek location opened which is located just past the flea market on Route 209. Wayne Bank's newest location opened in Tannersville in December of 2006. It is located south of the light at the intersection of Route 715 and Route 611 (below the Crossings Outlets) on the left-hand side of Route 611 in the Fountain Springs East II complex.

History

Wayne Bank was founded on November 4, 1871, and was known as the Wayne County Savings Bank, located on Main Street in the heart of Honesdale, a burgeoning canal town at the terminus of the Delaware and Hudson Canal. Early financing included everything from boat building and harness manufacturing to tanneries and farming. The shutdown of the Canal at the end of the 19th century forced the Bank to change with the times by financing the expansion of the county into other industries such as glassworks, textile factories and logging.

Honesdale Office
in 1875

In 1924, the Bank' moved to the present headquarters between 7th and 8th Streets on Main Street. The majesty of the building's limestone and marble fa￧ade continues to represent the image of stateliness and security favored by banks in those days. The Bank's heart remains the massive 12-foot high, polished steel vault, which when opened looks like a giant complex time-piece, a must see on any visitor's itinerary.

At the time the Bank marked its centennial in 1971, assets had grown to about $18.5 million, with 18 employees on staff operating two offices in Honesdale and Waymart. In 1980, the Bank opened a satellite office on Willow Avenue in Honesdale.

1985 brought the Bank's brand of personal service to customers in the Hawley/Lake Wallenpaupack area with the construction and opening of a new branch. In 1993 ,with its name changed to reflect its widening business base, Wayne Bank added a branch in the historic Pike County seat of Milford. A year later, the Bank opened its first supermarket branch in Hamlin. 1996 saw the addition of branches in Shohola and Lakewood. The 1999 opening of the Bank's Stroud Mall, Stroudsburg, branch introduced us to Monroe County. The Lords Valley branch office was opened in 2000, and the Marshalls Creek office opened its doors to customers in summer, 2004.

Strong population growth in the Bank's market area (Wayne, Pike, and Monroe Counties have consistently ranked in the top 5 statewide over the last 40 years) and corresponding small business growth, has fostered the Bank's own impressive growth. As 2008 drew to a close, the Bank's total assets stood at $504.3 million.

Norwood Financial Corp., a bank holding company, was created in 1996, with Wayne Bank as a subsidiary. Stock is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol NWFL

In a world of sudden start-up financial institutions, and just as sudden disappearances, Wayne Bank possesses an impressive longevity that will provide security for its customer, well into the future.
